Reeds, Branches and Flowers

These images are inspired by the beauty of our natural world.  Each image is developed from a photograph of reeds, branches, or flowers, and many reflect nature multiple times:  first through the original photograph, and then through the duplication, recomposing, and mirroring of the new image.  The symmetry of composition used in several of these works serves to structure organic forms into visual meditations on our environment.  These images take a fresh look at the familiar through unique combinations of geometric and natural forms.  While some images are lush and dark and hint at the unknown, others create a safe, light space in which to contemplate the spiritual power of nature.  Some images are split with a darker top and lighter bottom to emphasize reflection.  Several contain metaphors such as “Nature’s Shield”, “Floating in the Universe”, and the enigmatic “Yellow Weeds” with dark little figures — perhaps knights of the forest — at its center.  All images invite the viewer to dwell in their spaces and, in doing so, offer new experiences of our green world.
